Romanian Keyboards: Historical Language Background
Keyboard labels have been carefully designed for the Romanian language. Here's some background info on this alphabet.
Romanian language is one of the first Romance languages with its roots originating from Vulgar Latin (Common Latin), 2nd-3rd century AD. Romanian is the official language for 90% of population of Romania, and is spoken by over 26 million people (this accounts for 0.5% of the whole world's population).
The first Romanian keyboard layout was based on the Romanian National Standard for the Romanian language SR-13392:1998 which has never been implemented by any computer operating system. Now, Romanian keyboard is based on the current layout provided in Windows and created in early Windows versions. Historically, it does not conform to the Romanian National Standard SR 13392:2004 which was designed specifically for computers, and is considered to be less ergonomic, nevertheless it is the most popular and widely used layout.
